Every piece is created through the ancient technique of lost-wax casting. Wondering what the heck lost wax casting is? Well my friend, it’s an ancient method of metal-casting dating back to the third millennium BC. Each piece starts as a block of wax which is then carefully carved by Marie-Lauren, sanded by hand, cast in a precious metal, re-sanded and finally polished. Spoiler alert – no two pieces are ever the same, like ever.

Then the stones will be ‘cast-in-place’, which involves setting the stones directly into the wax. It’s a true testament to the experimental nature of MLR designs, resulting in a perfectly imperfect setting. Casting a stone in place ensures that precious gems are secured. You’ve gotta lock that stuff down. However, it’s only achievable with the strongest of stones (diamonds, sapphires, rubies). Sounds kind of epic, right?

As MLR continues to grow, so must our crew. We have carefully selected a team of local specialists to bring the pieces alive. Traditional stone-setting and engraving is handed over to our trusted specialists. And don’t fret, we’ve run the reference checks to make sure our specialists give each piece as much love and attention as Marie-Lauren herself.

Please remember MLR pieces are handmade with love and care and allow 2-4 weeks for the magic to happen in our Melbourne studio. It means your piece is one-of-a-kind and super special. But if you’re dying for a piece, and not vibing our timings, please get in touch via the CONTACT page or email hello@mlrjewels.com. While we can’t make any promises, we can always see what we can do.
